The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Low Carb Diet Plan

What is a low carb diet? It is nothing but an eating plan, where you are consuming fewer carbohydrates (carbs). This is also a plan where you are taking proteins and fats instead of all those carbohydrates. Why would anybody want to go on a low carb diet plan? A person would do this to use up the fat that is already stored within the body. Before selecting such a diet regime, it is essential that you have adequate information about it. You should know that there are both advantages and disadvantages of this.

Usually, a person goes on the low carb diet to shed the excess pounds that are already stored in the body. And it certainly seems to be working, at least in the very beginning. However, you should know that, soon enough, you will begin to notice a few side effects. These are usually muscle cramps, exhaustion and bad breadth. And, if the person has some kidney problems, then there can be additional side effects too of the low carb diet plan.

Is it a good idea to stay on the low carb diet for a long time?

The answer to this is, “No”. You should never remove or reduce the carbohydrates from the foods that you eat for the long term. That’s because, some experts are of the opinion that, if you are not having adequate carbs from your food, then it increased the risk of a heart attack. Those who are eating fewer carbohydrates are actually consuming more saturated fats than they should. There are experts who are of the opinion that this excess fat level enhances the cholesterol level, and this is what leads to the heart attack.

But, on the other hand, the advantages of a low carb diet cannot be overlooked too. For instance, if you are taking in fewer carbohydrates, then it means that you are consuming fewer empty calorie items like tea, soda, chips and sweets. These are certainly items that you should always restrict. So, cut them down from your eating regime if you are trying to get rid of your obesity problem. If you cannot completely eliminate them, then at least reduce the quantities and frequency.

The low carb diet plan can have an impact on the behavior of a dieter too, at least according to a few studies that have been published. According to the findings and suggestions of one such study, any good low carb diet plan should restrict the intake of carbs to just 20 grams in a day. However, other experts tend to disagree with this. They say that it is OK to consume up to 150 grams on any given day. They say that this is needed by the human brain to function efficiently.

If you are trying to reduce weight, you will have to control the food you are eating. This is a must. But, what food do you restrict? You should do it with the carbohydrates. Thus, the low carb diet is a good idea. But do this with moderation. Do not go overboard with your low carb diet. Too much of dieting is not good for your health.
