For some reason, the expression “love handles” never seemed to be an appropriate name for the unsightly bulges appearing on the sides of the abdomen. “Ugly handles” would seem to fit better. However, fortunately for those that suffer from the unsightly ugly handles, there are exercises for love handles that will in fact make the body feel more love than ever before. Essentially, love handles are created due to the overflow of excess fat in the abdomen area, and gravity works to extend the fat out to the sides, causing the unlovely love handles to appear. Exercises for love handles specifically targeted for the abdomen will certainly work, but a more regimented exercise that encompasses the whole body is actually more effective.
Obviously, weight loss is an important component to getting rid of the nasty little love handles. Embarking on a dietary program that contains heart healthy foods, fruits and vegetables, whole grain breads and foods high on vitamin and nutrient content will go a long way towards starting to lose the unwanted pounds. However, dieting alone doesn’t help tone the body. Exercises for love handles combined with dieting will do that trick. All-encompassing aerobic exercises provide a great start in starting to shed the flabby little love handles. Cardiovascular exercises for about 30-45 minutes per day will help in increasing the body’s metabolism, burning off calories quicker. Stair climbing, working on a treadmill, stationary bikes and rowing machines are all perfect cardiovascular routines that work all parts of the body, including the abdomen. Chances are, if you have flab in the gut, there’s flab elsewhere on the body that needs to go as well. Crunches and sit-ups are also good to incorporate into a regular exercise program as well, as they both specifically target the abdomen area, so you’ll be working out the abs along with the rest of the body in combination with aerobic exercises.
Don’t expect the flabby little love handles to disappear rapidly, as it will take a little time. Starting with the aerobic exercises however will induce results quickly, as they start to speed up metabolism rates and calories start to melt away. Other target-specific exercises for love handles can also help, such as trunk twists, dumbbell exercises and use of a medicine ball, however simple crunches and sit-ups can do the trick quite nicely to start. The main focus should be on utilizing aerobic exercising to work out the entire body, target-specific exercising, and a daily meal plan using recommended heart healthy foods. This trio will be a more than effective way to finally get rid of the butt-ugly “love handles.”
