Over the last several years, one little purple berry has captivated the health and fitness world. It has been featured on several popular talk shows, including Oprah and the Rachel Ray Show, and NBC’s Today show even traveled to inspect the berry phenomenon itself. The acai berry diet has clearly caught on, and while many have tried to dispute its claims, an even larger population has touted its effectiveness. Native Brazilians have been claiming for centuries that the acai berry diet is the panacea to cure all ills, and while that claim may be a bit overreaching, it has been shown to be an extremely effective tool in losing weight and treating other minor ailments.
The acai berry is indigenous to the rainforests along the Amazon River in Brazil. Just a bit smaller than a blueberry in size, the acai berry grows in bunches in palm trees. When harvested, the acai berry loses its potency very quickly, as quickly as one day, so it needs to be freeze dried rapidly to preserve its overall effectiveness. Many acai berry diet plans consists of berries that have been transformed into powder or capsule form for that very reason. The power behind the acai berry is in its powerful supply of rich antioxidants. In fact, there are ten times more antioxidants in an acai berry as there are found in a grape. The taste of an acai berry is also thought to be a plus, as it combines the flavor of red wine and chocolate, which certainly has an appeal. What sways the general public toward an acai berry diet is the berry’s overall ability to help remove dangerous toxins from the body through its supply of antioxidants, as well as helping the body to retain energy levels due to its high concentration of aspartic acid, which helps to promote generation of cellular energy.
Matt Lauer, co-host of NBC’s Today Show, traveled to Brazil back in 2004 to verify the legitimacy of the acai berry diet claims. He found scores of Brazilians who enthusiastically touted the berry’s power, and found that native Brazilians have relied on the berry for centuries to help in weight loss, increase energy levels, and treat a variety of skin conditions. Now, through the miracle of modern media technology, the whole world is now getting to see what the Brazilians have known for many years. The acai berry diet, in spite of critics who doubt its claims, continues to grow in popularity, and with the backing of heavy media types such as Oprah and Rachel Ray, will no doubt continue the ascent of the acai berry diet to the top of the diet category.
